Pet Health Certificate
Tapeworm treatment, arranged for your dog
For UK dog owners in Europe Enquiry takes 2 minutes

Returning to the UK from the EU with your dog? You need this vet visit.

It's UK law: before your dog can re-enter Great Britain from the EU, it must be treated for tapeworm by a vet in the country you're travelling from, in a specific window just before you head home. The difficult part is finding the right vet, arranging the appointment and making sure the requirements are clearly understood - particularly when you’re abroad, don't speak the local language, and have no idea which vet to call. That's where we can help. Tell us your location and travel date - and we'll arrange everything for you.

How it works

1

Tell us your details

Where you and your dog are, and the date you're heading back to the UK. Free, and takes about two minutes.

2

We find a vet and get you a price

We contact a vet in your area, explain the UK requirements, arrange the appointment and translate where necessary.

3

You decide, we book it in.

If you're happy with the price, we confirm the appointment for you. Congratulations... that's one less thing to worry about!

Things to be aware of:

  • The window is tight. Treatment has to happen in the days immediately before you land back in Great Britain — not just "sometime before the trip."
  • Not every local vet is set up for this. Some clinics abroad rarely deal with the UK's entry requirements or the paperwork it involves.
  • Language is the real barrier. Explaining a UK government requirement to a vet's front desk in a country where you don't speak the language, on a deadline, is harder than it sounds.
  • The paperwork must be correct. The vet must correctly document everything. The vets we use will correctly record the treatment details, including the product, manufacturer, date and time of treatment, together with their stamp and signature.
  • Get it wrong and your dog is unlikely to travel. Miss the window or the paperwork, and your dog can be refused entry back into the UK.
The actual rule: a vet must treat your dog for tapeworm between 24-120 hours (1-5 days) before you arrive back in Great Britain (Northern Ireland has different pet travel rules), and record it on your dog's Animal Health Certificate (the official document — what most owners call the "pet health certificate"). Failure to do this may mean your dog cannot enter the UK.

Don't leave this to the last minute. Send your enquiry as soon as you know your travel dates. The more notice we have, the more time we have to find a suitable veterinary practice and arrange an appointment that fits your journey home.

Tip: you do not need to treat your dog for tapeworm if you're coming directly to Great Britain from Finland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Malta or Norway.

Free, no obligation. We'll email you once we've found a vet and confirmed the price — it's entirely up to you whether to go ahead.
